New Fire Truck Purchased with TIFA Funds to be Dedicated

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI (9/11/13) – The Dearborn Heights Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) and Dearborn Heights Fire Department have announced that a new fire truck, purchased using TIFA funds, will be officially dedicated at Dearborn Heights Fire Station #1 (4500 S. Telegraph, at Annapolis) on Saturday, September 21 at 1:00pm.

The public is invited to join the fire department, TIFA representatives and local government officials for this celebration.

“Public safety has been one of our main concerns since the beginning of our TIFA,” said Carmine Oliverio, TIFA Administrator.  “Whether it’s a fire truck, or rescue squad vehicle, or utility pick-up truck, or building improvements, or some other vital equipment, the TIFA Board has made every effort to help provide these things to our first responders.”

In its 27 years of existence, the Dearborn Heights TIFA has contributed almost $2 million to the fire department for use within the TIFA district.  The purchase of this newest truck was made possible through TIFA’s contribution of $246,000 (approximately half the cost of the vehicle), which was matched by a grant secured by Fire Chief Andrew Gurka.

“Our department is grateful to TIFA for their continued support,” remarked Chief Gurka.  “The new truck will be a valuable asset to our firefighters as they protect our citizens each and every day.”
