DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI (12/6/10) – Mayor Daniel Paletko joined several city officials November 17 for a grand opening and ribbon cutting at Lenny’s Homestyle Cooking restaurant, 5152 S. Beech Daly Road, site of the former Daly Drive-In.
Following last summer’s false start by the restaurant’s previous owners – which resulted in its closing after only a few weeks – the three-generation family team of Pat, Tammy and Ryan Phillips recently stepped in to revive the business once again. Renamed Lenny’s, in honor of Pat’s husband, who passed away last summer, the Phillips family plans to use their 40-plus years of restaurant experience to help restore the restaurant’s place as a local landmark.
“I’ve been in the restaurant business since I was 18 years old,” Pat said. “I started as a waitress at a restaurant right here at John Daly and Michigan Avenue. I worked for a wonderful man…who after a while sold us the restaurant in 1965. We’ve been in the business ever since.”
Since then she has operated restaurants Southfield (15 years ago), and most recently in Wayne (11 years ago). Her daughter, Tammy, also a veteran of the restaurant business, handles most of the cooking-related responsibilities. Her grandson, Ryan, is learning the responsibilities of a restaurant manager.
Lenny’s offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items, including daily specials.
“Everything we do is cooked right here,” Pat said. “There are no short cuts. Our goal is simple: to make this a friendly, comfortable place where folks can come in, sit down, and enjoy a great meal at a reasonable price.”
The restaurant opens at 7 a.m. daily for breakfast. Carry-outs are available by calling (313) 769-6440 or (313) 769-6445.
