DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI (9/11/14) – When the Robichaud Bulldogs take the field tomorrow night for their first varsity football home game of the 2014 season against Redford Union, they will do so with a new scoreboard installed just last year, thanks to an $11,000 grant from the Dearborn Heights TIFA.
When the TIFA Board heard that the school was looking to replace the old malfunctioning scoreboard, they unanimously voted to approve the grant.
“When funds are available, we look to do what we can to help Westwood Schools,” said TIFA Administrator Carmine Oliverio. “Being able to compete and host sporting events on an adequate home field is important for the kids and we know they appreciate the investment.”
Just a few years ago, the Dearborn Heights TIFA also awarded almost $360,000 to the school district to construct a brand new track at Robichaud (around the football field), which allowed them to host track competitions at the school for the first time in years. The deteriorated condition of the old track prevented them from doing so. The track is also open to the public for walking/running during the daytime when it is not being used for school activities.
In other news, earlier this year, Westwood Schools received a $10,000 grant from Comerica Bank and the Detroit Tigers to renovate the baseball diamonds at Robichaud. See that TV news story HERE.
