Light Up the Night 2015 kick-off event May 23 – UPDATED

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI (4/23/15) –  Local neighborhood & civic associations are teaming up to address issues of public safety and citizen involvement through the Light Up the Night 2015 initiative.

The goal is to encourage support for and participation in community awareness/neighborhood watch programs, as well as address crime trends, blight and community safety.  Light Up the Night 2015 will bring residents of Dearborn Heights, city officials, local law enforcement, businesses, and organizations together for the safety and common good of our community.

All Dearborn Heights residents are invited to attend a kick-off picnic on Saturday, May 23, 2015 beginning at 11 a.m. at Daly Park (located at the intersection of Lehigh & Westlake, just East of Gulley Rd.).  Festivities will include food, face painting, guest speakers, and entertainment for the entire family.  Information on the various neighborhood associations will also be distributed and representatives will be available to answer questions.  (CLICK HERE to download the flyer in pdf format.)

Special guests include Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and State Senator David Knezek, among many others.

Carol Stuart, president of the Southwest Dearborn Heights Neighborhood Association and co-chair of Light Up the Night 2015, said that they are seeking business and organization partners, sports teams, youth programs, community groups, and individual residents to help in this fight against crime.  “It is time to take back our community,” she added.

“We are seeking funding sponsors, in any amount, for the purchase of energy efficient light bulbs that will be distributed to residents who sign a pledge to ‘Light Up the Night’ every night by keeping their porch lights on,” said councilwoman Lisa Hicks-Clayton, president of the Golfview Manor Civic Association and also co-chair of the event.

Light bulbs will be distributed at community events, festivals and on action days.

If you are able and would like to donate toward the purchase of light bulbs for distribution to city residents, please send a check payable to “Light Up the Night” to P.O. Box 2597, Dearborn MI 48123.
