DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI (4/16/19) – Over the last several months, Fire Station #1, located at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Annapolis Street in the TIFA District, received some necessary improvements thanks to funding from the Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA).
First, a new commercial dishwasher was purchased and installed. Due to constant use, running at least three times a day, residential dishwashers were wearing out quickly and developing unsanitary conditions inside their washing compartments. The new unit is equipped to handle the high volume and has been working great so far.
Also, due to concerns about germs and carcinogens collecting in older carpeting throughout the office and living areas, it was decided to upgrade the flooring materials to something that could be easily cleaned and disinfected. As a result, ceramic tile was installed in the offices while an easy-to-clean carpet tile, similar to that used in hospitals, was installed in the living area.
“We really appreciate the continued support of TIFA at Station #1,” said Fire Chief David Brogan. “These latest upgrades will help to assure the health and wellness of our men and women while they are on duty here at the station.”
Other projects at Fire Station #1 made possible over the years by the Dearborn Heights TIFA include building upgrades and various equipment purchases.
