DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI (3/6/10) – Whiskey Creek Sports Tavern was the site of a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 4, at which Mayor Dan Paletko, together with other city and community officials, welcomed the newly-renovated establishment. The event was organized by the Dearborn Heights Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA). Mayor Paletko wished Whiskey Creek many years of success in our city as he cut the ribbon aided by the Bozynskis, city officials, members of City Council, members of the TIFA Board, and friends.
Formerly known as Tailgators Sports Bar & Grill, owners Joseph & Gina Bozynski, who also own two other establishments in Gibraltar and Detroit, have overseen the tavern’s conversion into a more neighborhood-friendly gathering place since taking full ownership of it in 2009. Helping in this effort was the Dearborn Heights TIFA with a $10,000 redevelopment grant as part of their Business Improvement Program. TIFA Chairperson Exie Markowsky was on hand, along with several members of the TIFA Board, for an official presentation of the grant check.
“This establishment is one of the first to successfully complete their renovation utilizing the TIFA Business Improvement Program grant,” said Carmine Oliverio, TIFA Administrator. “We are thankful to the Bozynski family for their dedication to improving this business. Most importantly, we invite all our friends and neighbors to join us in welcoming them to our city.”
“The Bozynskis have been a pleasure to work with,” TIFA Business Incentives Coordinator Tom Rosco added. “Not only do they bring experience with them, but they are also committed to making their tavern a respectable one that they and our city can be proud of.” Whiskey Creek Sports Tavern is located at 25380 Van Born Rd. (at the corner of Gulley Rd.), open daily 11am-2am, featuring pool, darts, lottery and daily lunch specials.
The TIFA district will continue to see other business renovations in the coming months as part of the Business Improvement Program through which businesses in the TIFA district may be eligible to receive matching grants toward improvements to their properties. In addition, the TIFA office keeps an updated database of properties available for development in the district that it distributes to potential investors and developers.
